Futuristic Daihatsu Showroom: A Visionary Blend of Art and Utility

Shunsuke Ohe Crafts a Dual-Purpose Space with Innovative Design

In the heart of Osaka, a new architectural marvel emerges, combining the practicality of an auto repair shop with the allure of a car showroom. Shunsuke Ohe's latest project, Daihatsu, redefines the landscape with its groundbreaking design.

The Daihatsu project by Shunsuke Ohe is a testament to the fusion of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The building's exterior, devoid of sharp edges, flows with gentle curves reminiscent of a spacecraft. This dynamic silhouette is not just a visual treat but also a nod to the future of architectural design. The interior follows a minimalist color palette, with white dominating the space, complemented by subtle brown and gray tones. This strategic choice in coloration ensures that the Daihatsu brand logo, in its striking red and white hues, becomes the focal point, embodying the company's identity.

One of the most compelling aspects of Daihatsu is its dual functionality. The space serves both as a car maintenance shop and a showroom. The maintenance area breaks from tradition, opting for an open layout that invites the outside in, while the showroom boasts floor-to-ceiling glass walls. This transparency not only facilitates a seamless visual connection between the interior and exterior but also ensures that the cars on display are visible from the bustling intersection nearby, maximizing their advertising potential.

The construction of Daihatsu is a marvel of modern technology, utilizing materials such as steel splint panels for the roof, silicate calcium boards for the eaves, and plaster paint for the exterior walls. The interior is equally impressive, featuring nonflammable laminate panels and concrete flooring, all contributing to a space that is as safe as it is stunning.

Spanning a site area of 744.6 square meters with a total floor area of 271.2 square meters, Daihatsu stands as a beacon of innovation in the realm of showroom and auto repair shop design. The use of glass in the showroom is particularly noteworthy, with curved and straight panes merging to create the illusion of a singular, expansive glass facade. This design choice not only enhances the visual impact of the space but also serves as an effective marketing tool, drawing the eyes of passersby to the showcased vehicles.

Shunsuke Ohe's approach to the Daihatsu project was meticulous, considering both the need for a functional maintenance space and the desire for an attractive showroom. The result is a building that not only meets the practical demands of its dual purpose but also contributes to the cityscape with its innovative and beautiful form. The project, which spanned from October 2022 to December 2023, is a testament to Ohe's commitment to pushing the boundaries of design.

The Daihatsu design by Shunsuke Ohe, a recipient of the Iron A' Design Award in 2024, showcases the harmonious blend of art and utility. It stands as a symbol of how thoughtful design can transform everyday spaces into extraordinary landmarks. With its unique lighting design and strategic use of space, Daihatsu is not only a functional asset for the brand but also a significant architectural contribution to the city of Osaka.
